Jharkhand’s Members of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha have utilized a large portion of their allotted funds, but some spending remains unclear. These MPs have spent over 55 crore rupees from the Local Area Development Scheme. This program provides money for local projects, aiming to improve communities throughout the region. However, not all of the spending is transparent, with around 22 crore rupees still available for allocation.
Most of the Rajya Sabha MPs from Jharkhand have provided records detailing how they used their funds. However, two MPs, Pradeep Verma and Sarfaraz Ahmed, have not shared information on where their money went. Verma received 90 lakh rupees, and Ahmed was granted 4 crore 90 lakh rupees. This lack of financial disclosure creates concerns regarding how public funds are being used and whether they are reaching the local areas they are intended to help.
The absence of these spending records raises important questions about accountability. According to a local official, who wished to remain anonymous, the missing records hinder the ability to effectively monitor how public money is spent. This lack of transparency also impacts the public’s understanding of local development projects and makes it difficult to know if these funds are truly benefiting the people of Jharkhand.
The Local Area Development Scheme was established to allow MPs to address the specific needs of their regions. When MPs do not provide detailed accounts, it raises doubts about the proper use of public funds. Consequently, the current situation could lead to greater scrutiny of the program and stricter guidelines for future spending. This would ensure that public funds are used responsibly and achieve their intended purpose of improving local areas.
