Jharkhand Munda Villages Discuss PESA Act Implementation for Self-Governance

Jharkhand Munda Villages Discuss PESA Act Implemen

A recent meeting in Baharagora, East Singhbhum, brought together community leaders to discuss the Munda self-governance system. Nand Kishore Munda, the district president, led the gathering at Netaji Subhash Shishu Udyan. The main focus was on how to effectively use the PESA Act in Munda villages throughout the district, since East Singhbhum is a designated tribal area by the Jharkhand government.

The core discussion involved understanding how to maintain the Munda community’s traditional practices while using the PESA Act. This law gives significant power to village councils, also known as Gram Sabhas, in tribal areas. Specifically, it aims to empower tribal communities by giving them control over their own resources, culture, and development. Therefore, the meeting underscored the importance of properly implementing PESA, which they believe will significantly strengthen the tribal community.

Moreover, the meeting emphasized that implementing PESA would grant more power to the Gram Sabha, which directly benefits the tribal community. Participants discussed strategies to make sure that the Munda people’s long-standing traditions are respected within the boundaries of the PESA Act. Furthermore, attendees also planned upcoming meetings and outreach programs. The goal of these programs is to educate all villages about the act and its potential impact. This way they aim to ensure that every village has the information needed to make informed decisions.
