Jharkhand Municipal Elections Ordered Within Four Months After Court Intervention

Jharkhand Municipal Elections Ordered Within Four

The Jharkhand High Court said that municipal elections in Jharkhand need to happen within four months. This is because the elections have been delayed because the State Election Commission hasn’t gotten the updated voter lists it needs. The High Court ordered the Election Commission of India to give them these voter lists within a week so they can get things moving.

The main reason for the delay is the State Election Commission not having the right voter information. This hold up has stopped the elections from happening. There’s also been some back and forth about reservations for backward classes. The Chief Secretary told the court that they are almost done with the triple test verification for these reservations but the court wasn’t happy about how long everything was taking.

The court is pushing for both the Election Commission of India and the state government to act fast. They want the voter lists in a week and the elections finished in four months. The court also made it clear they weren’t pleased with the slow progress of the backward class reservation process it seems they want everything to be done completely and on time.
