Bokaro.
The Gandhi Shilp Bazaar, which was held at Mazdoor Maidan in Bokaro for the past one week, has ended with poor management and no benefit to the artisans.
The Craft Development Institute, Hazaribag, Jharkhand organized the Gandhi Shilp Bazaar at Mazdoor Maidan, Sector-4, Bokaro, Jharkhand from January 24.
Even after 10 days, the stalls were not filled completely and the stalls did not display the numbering, craft, and artisans. There were no handicrafts in many stalls. No local items were seen in this fair, which was named after the local voice. The artisans of Bokaro district did not get its benefit.
This fair is organized by the Ministry of Handicrafts, Government of India to encourage local artisans and to provide handicrafts to the people of Bokaro. There is no arrangement of toilets for men and women in the fair. The artisans did not bring the stock, they just filled it up. Due to lack of publicity, the crowd of local people in the fair was negligible.
Local activists said that there was no point in uplifting and working with the artisan. This organization has already played its game in Urban Haat Hazaribag. Its support.
Despite spending a huge budget, this fair did not look like its format. Local visitors Ravi Kumar, Fulendra Ravidas, Kiran Kumari said that there is a lack of local content and handicraft development related content in the fair. Foreign and Chinese goods are also being sold by outside traders. At the same time, due to the lack of toilets, people visiting the fair are facing a lot of problems.
Demands of the local people:
- The local artisans should be given priority in the fair.
- The fair should be organized in a systematic manner.
- There should be proper arrangement of toilets for men and women.
- The fair should be publicized widely so that more people can visit it.
If these demands are met, then the Gandhi Shilp Bazaar will be truly beneficial for the local artisans and the people of Bokaro.
