For the past few months, the Garhwa district has been under threat from wild elephants. Last night, wild elephants wreaked havoc in numerous Garhwa villages. In addition to causing damage to the homes, the wild elephant consumed the grains stored inside.
A local informed that seventeen-year-old daughter was sleeping in a home in Baradih village, Dudhwal Panchayat, Ranka sub-division, Garhwa district when three elephant attacked their house destroying the house. He claimed that my house was abruptly destroyed by a herd of three wild elephants last night at midnight. While I was sleeping in the same house, I managed to get out and avoid death. I no longer have a place to live or food stamps.
Gramins in the area are suffering due to the regular attacks of wild elephants. Wild animals are entering villages and attacking houses even in daylight. The recent incidents are raising questions for Forest Department of Jharkhand.
While the data shared by the forest department in the year 2023 wild elephant has killed 2 people and injured 3 people in the Garwha region. The same data by Jharkhand forest department claims attack of wild elephants has caused demolition of 70 houses. Livestock of 343 farmers were also affected due to wild elephants entering in local villages.
Forest department has claimed that remuneration of 60 lakhs has been already provided to the gramins affected due to wild elephant attack in Garwha. The forest department has demanded Rs 1cr from the government as a compensation for the locals and villagers affected due to attack of wild animals.
