Jharkhand Statehood: BJP Leader Says Vajpayee, Not JMM, Created Jharkhand

Jharkhand Statehood BJP Leader Says Vajpayee Not J

The creation of Jharkhand is a hotly debated topic, especially among political parties. Recently, Babulal Marandi, the BJP State President, challenged claims made by Chief Minister Hemant Soren about who was responsible for the state’s formation. Marandi clearly stated that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee deserves the credit, not the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). He believes it is important to acknowledge the real forces behind Jharkhand’s creation.

During a visit to Bokaro, Marandi explained his reasoning. He argued that JMM actually weakened the movement for a separate Jharkhand by joining forces with the Congress party. In fact, the RJD government was in power in Bihar at the time, and Lalu Yadav, its leader, strongly opposed the creation of Jharkhand. Marandi claims that JMM made an agreement with these very people who were against the state’s formation.

Marandi further emphasized his point by stating that JMM “sold the Jharkhand movement to the Congress.” This is his interpretation of what happened during a crucial period in Jharkhand’s history. The struggle to create Jharkhand was a major event, and understanding who played what role remains a subject of disagreement among different political groups even today. Therefore, Marandi’s comments reignite the discussion about the true origins of the state.
