Officials in the Patamda block of East Singhbhum district are taking action against ten local leaders and three non-profit organizations. These individuals and groups received ₹29.28 lakh (2.9 million rupees) in advance to build toilets but failed to complete the work. Now, the district is moving forward with legal action to recover the money.
The problem began when these individuals and organizations accepted ₹12,000 (12 thousand rupees) per toilet as an advance payment. However, they did not finish building the toilets. Because of this, many people in the area lack proper sanitation, which harms the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, India’s national cleanliness campaign.
A district official stated that the government is dedicated to making sure public money is used correctly and for its intended purpose. The official also added that they will take strong action against anyone found to be misusing funds. An investigation showed a big difference between the amount of money given and the actual number of toilets built. Therefore, the administration is working hard to get the funds back and ensure the toilets are built for the people who need them.
This situation emphasizes the government’s promise to fight corruption and maintain responsibility in government projects. Furthermore, it sends a clear message to other officials and organizations that misusing public funds will not be accepted.
Recovering the funds will allow the construction of the necessary toilets. This, in turn, will improve sanitation and public health in the Patamda block. So, by addressing this issue, the district aims to provide better living conditions for its residents.
