The Adivasi Suraksha Parishad recently gathered in Jamshedpur, at Gadra Panchayat’s Jaskandi area, to address important issues facing the tribal community. The meeting, led by Gangadhar Barjo, included Ramesh Hansda, president of the Suraksha Parishad, and Jaipal Murmu, the central general secretary. They focused on discussing the PESA Act and how it could empower the tribal population. The group also planned a larger “Pesa Mahapanchayat” to take place on February 12th in Salgajhari.
During the meeting, attendees emphasized the significance of the PESA (Panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act. Ramesh Hansda described the act as a “Brahmastra,” or ultimate weapon, for the Adivasi community, highlighting its potential to protect their rights. The Adivasi Suraksha Parishad hopes to use the upcoming Mahapanchayat to better inform and organize the community about this important law. Gulshan Tudu, the meeting’s coordinator, helped facilitate discussions to make sure the message was clear.
Furthermore, the decision to hold the Pesa Mahapanchayat demonstrates the organization’s dedication to educating tribal people about their rights. They also plan to finally implement the PESA Act, which has been delayed for a considerable time. This meeting served as an opportunity to unite tribal leaders and community members, with the aim of advancing their goals for tribal protection and progress. The planned gathering shows the continued efforts to use law and community action to address the needs of Adivasi people in the region.
