8 MLAs reached Delhi, Congress busy in convincing MLAs

Eight Congress MLAs, upset that they were not appointed as cabinet ministers in Champai Soren’s government, traveled to Delhi. There’s ‘khichdi’ being cooked there, after all. Jharkhandis are discussing this topic in a variety of ways. The question now is whether or not all of the former Congress ministers will lose their positions or whether or not all of the MLAs will be persuaded.

Media reports state that Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge is aware of the MLAs’ discontent as well. He has delegated to certain party strategists the task of persuading the MLAs. Ghulam Ahmed Mir, the Jharkhand chief, is crucial to this. General Secretary of the Congress Organization, KC Venugopal, has taken an active stance on this matter.

  • Caste Census approved in Jharkhand by Champai Soren Government

Caste Census approved in Jharkhand by Champai Soren Government

Residents of Jharkhand has demanded caste census from a very long time and just after Champai Soren took the office of chief minister and formation of cabinet ministers in Jharkhand the caste census is approved in Jharkhand.

Chief minister of Jharkhand informed the residents about the news via X (twitter)

Approval of Caste Census in Jharkhand

The path was prepared for the census. On Saturday, Chief Minister Champai Soren gave his approval. The Personnel Department will be in charge of the caste census project.

The caste census was previously supported by the Hemant Soren government, though it was unclear which department would be in charge of carrying it out. The Land and Revenue Reforms Department is assigned the task of conducting the census under the State Executive Rules. However, the executive rules did not assign any department the task of conducting a caste-based census. Following the Chief Minister’s directive, the government has broken this deadlock. The caste census will now be carried out by the personnel department with government approval.

What is the Significance of Caste Census?

    • Discrimination based on caste is still pervasive throughout much of India. One useful tool for identifying marginalized groups and elevating them in the policy-making process is a caste census.
    • Targeted policies to alleviate social inequality and improve marginalized communities can be put into place by having a thorough understanding of the distribution of various caste groups.
    • It is challenging to guarantee the equitable distribution of resources in the absence of precise data on the population of OBCs and other groups.
    • In this sense, a caste census can be beneficial as it offers insights into the needs and socioeconomic circumstances of various caste groups.
    • It can help legislators create policies that address the unique needs of every group, fostering inclusive development.

    Congress also demands Caste Census

During Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi and congress leaders have been demanding national wide caste census.

Jharkhand’s state president, Kashif Raza has been demanding caste census in Jharkhand since the formation of Azad Samaj Party in Jharkhand

ASP Jharkhand, state president furious with the insult of Baidyanath Ram

On 16 Feb 2024, the newly made Champai Soren government in Jharkhand saw the formation of new cabinet ministers. It came with a controversy that Latehar’s MLA Badiyanath Ram whose name was supposed to be present in the cabinet minister list was removed at the last moment.

Kashif Raza, Azad Samaj Party Jharkhand, State President stated that “Insult to Badiyanath Ram was an insult to dalit community in Jharkhand”. According to Kashif, Latehar’s Honorable MLA Vaidyanath Ram, who comes from a Dalit community, his name was included in the cabinet expansion. His name was also included in the list of new ministers sent to Raj Bhavan. But his name was removed at the last moment, he was not administered the oath of office as a minister, what is the reason for this?

He further states that Indian democracy advocates equal participation and rights of all classes in proportion to their numbers. Ignoring the Dalit community in the new government of Jharkhand may prove costly for the strong JMM government. Champai Soren should consider this.

Letter to the chief minister, Champai Soren

Kashif Raza has written a letter to the current chief minister of Jharkhand, Champai Soren regarding the matter and requested him to take corrective actions.
