Traffic on the Rajnagar-Chaibasa road was impeded for several hours on Thursday morning due to road blockades erected by Aadivasi-Mulvasi Ekta Munch activists against the apprehension of Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren.

With the exception of the Rajnagar block in the Seraikela-Kharsawan district, the Kolhan responded to the bandh call, which was intended for the entire state, moderately. The leaders of the bandh had blocked the route by setting fire to tires at Murumdih and a few other nearby streets.

Leading the demonstration, a protester claimed that Hemant Soren had been subjected to harassment by the ED and had been pressured to step down as chief minister prior to his detention. According to JMM activist Jagatram Murmu, the party’s Seraikela unit had also intended to impose a bandh in Seraikela but had since scrapped the idea.

In an interview with The Jharkhand Story, Murmu said, “We were too hurt to learn of Hemant Soren’s eventual arrest by the ED, but we are now pleased because Champai Soren has been designated as the new chief minister of the state.”
