Tribal organizations staged a demonstration in front of Raj Bhavan the day before ED questioned Chief Minister Hemant Soren in connection with the land scam case. Tribal members warned that they would burn the state down if they came in contact with the chief minister. People gathered to protest the BJP and the federal government at both Raj Bhavan and Morhabadi Maidan. Additionally, the demonstrators chanted anti-BJP and anti-national government slogans. Tribal organizations claimed that the Chief Minister and the state government were being harassed by central agencies driven by political interests.

The demonstrators claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Central Government would not accept a tribal chief minister in Jharkhand. He claimed that by sending the Chief Minister summonses on a regular basis, ED is harassing him. This will not be accepted. The demonstrators claimed that the ED’s action was an attempt to damage the state’s reputation. He warned that even the tribal people would not remain silent if the BJP and the Central Government did not take a lesson to heart. A lot of demonstrators even threatened to replicate Bengal.

Notable is the ED’s desire to question the Chief Minister regarding the land scam. To the Chief Minister, eight summonses were sent between August 2023 and January 2024. The Chief Minister was requested to respond to the last summons, which was sent on January 14 and asked him to appear before the ED between January 15 and January 20. ED advised that you specify the location and time. The Chief Minister then announced that on January 20, he would be available for questioning at his home. In the meantime, the ED has demanded in writing that the security arrangements be strengthened in a letter to the Chief Secretary and DGP.
