The processes used in the Seraikela district to distribute weekly loans and collect them from microfinance companies through the formation of women’s groups have progressively begun to kill women. In the last few days, there have been reports of two cases in a row. As you may recall, the first case was discovered on January 27, where Mamta Devi, a 34-year-old auto driver’s wife, hanged herself in Jagannathpur, near the Gamharia police station. It was revealed by the woman’s husband that his spouse had obtained a loan from Hinduja Finance Company. The collection agent’s harassment had led to his wife’s suicide. On Saturday, the second case was made public where 46-year-old tribal resident Sunita Sundi, who lived in Kulupatanga under the RIT police station, hanged herself to death.

Govind Hembram, the woman’s brother, filed a complaint at the RIT police station claiming that his sister was under a lot of stress after taking out a loan from a finance company through a women’s group. On Friday night, she hanged herself to end her life. As of right now, the police have seized the woman’s body, sent it for a post-mortem, and initiated additional procedures.
