A paint factory in the Dayalpur Market area of Alipur, the national capital, caught fire on Thursday, killing eleven people. However, a single police official suffered injuries while conducting a rescue operation, making them one of the four patients admitted to the hospital.

According to a Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official, the burned bodies of the 11 victims were found at the factory in Alipur’s Dayal market, which also has chemical godowns.

An explosion before the fire quickly spread to eight stores and a drug treatment facility nearby.

DFS chief Atul Garg posted on X, “Despite best efforts by DFS, 11 labours died in paint factory fire in Alipur area Delhi. Fire call was received @ 5.30 pm and 22 tenders were to the site but due to explosion building collapsed & workers trapped inside the factory and couldn’t not be saved. Very very unfortunate day.”

According to a police officer, the explosion appears to have been caused by chemicals kept in the warehouses. The officer named the injured as Jyoti (42), Divya (20), Mohit Solanki (34), and police constable Karambir (35). All four of them have been admitted to Raja Harish Chandra Hospital.

Sumit Bharadwaj, an eyewitness, stated: “The incident happened at about 5:30 p.m. Everyone heard an explosion and came together here. We exerted great effort to put out the fire. When seven or eight fire trucks arrived, the firefighting operation was going on.”
