Aligarh Jama Masjid Faces Temple Claim in New Court Petition

Aligarh jama masjid rti survey 1

A petition in Uttar Pradesh court says Aligarh Jama Masjid is built on old Hindu temples. They want court to order a survey of the mosque to check its origins. Petitioners say temples were demolished to build the mosque, like other religious site disputes in India.

They are asking for an archaeological investigation to prove the site was a Hindu temple before. This case is complicated cause it has to do with old historical and cultural roots. It’s also happening while other religious site conflicts are going on in the state, which is worrying for community peace.

The court will look at the petition soon. A previous ruling said you can’t survey religious places until a decision is made about the Places of Worship Act of 1991. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the matter again on February 17, 2025.
