The Congress party picked Areeba Khan to run in the Okhla area for the Delhi Assembly elections. Areeba is the daughter of ex-MLA Asif Khan and the niece of Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. She was one of 16 new names on the party’s list of candidates. This means she’ll be up against the current MLA Amanatullah Khan from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) who has won this seat two times already. It looks like the Delhi elections are going to be a big competition.
Areeba’s joining the race makes things interesting for Okhla because it has many different kinds of people and a large Muslim population. Because her dad and uncle are known in politics she has a bit of an advantage in name recognition but she’ll have a tough time winning against Amanatullah Khan. The AAP candidate has worked hard to build support in Okhla from his time in office. By putting Areeba in Okhla it shows that the Congress party is trying to connect with the people there.
These elections are going to be very interesting. They will show what people think about the current AAP government and the other parties trying to win. The Congress party’s list of candidates like Areeba Khan have made the political situation more clear and we could end up seeing a close election with three main groups competing.
