Chief minister of Assam, Hemant Biswa Sarma has recently announced a report in which 159000 citizens of Assam are declared foreigners and further in the report 96000 citizens are listed in D voter category of voter list 2024 Assam. Hemant Sarma also holds the home department of Assam.
In response to a follow-up query from AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam, the chief minister said that the state has officially identified over 1.59 lakh individuals as “foreigners” to date. As of December 31 of last year, more than 3.37 lakh cases had been resolved, and more than 96,000 cases remained unresolved under different Foreigners’ Tribunals. According to the Hemant Biswa Sarma, 1,59,353 persons had been deemed foreigners by these tribunals.

Sarma asked Assamese citizens to select their enemy, asking them to choose between “the 1-1.5 lakh people or the 55 lakh people,” in reference to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. Although he did not clarify what the figures meant, reports suggested that he was alluding to the state’s Muslim and Hindu immigrant populations as per the report of The Indian Express
No holidays on Friday

Over 96 thousand are considered as doubtful voters
As of right now, the state has 96,987 doubtful voters, according to data, Chief Minister Hemant Biswa stated in response to a question posed by Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed in the Assembly. According to the Chief Minister, the Foreigners (Citizens) Tribunal has not yet sent notices to 41,275 suspicious voters.
Number of cases pending goes over 96 thousand
On Monday in the Assembly, Assam Chief Minister Hemant Biswa was responding to a query from MLA Aminul Islam of the opposition party, the AIUDF. The Chief Minister has notified the Assembly that 1,59,353 individuals have been classified as foreign nationals by the tribunals as of December 31, 2023. He disclosed that as of the end of the previous year, the Foreigners (Citizens) Tribunal had resolved 3,37,186 cases, while 96,149 cases remained pending in different tribunals.
