Chhattisgarh Ex-Minister Arrested in Massive Liquor Scam

Chhattisgarh Ex Minister Arrested in Massive Liquor Scam

The Enforcement Directorate recently arrested Kawasi Lakhma a former minister in Chhattisgarh. He was a six-time MLA too. This arrest is connected to a big liquor scam they say happened between 2019 and 2023. The scam allegedly involved about ₹2161 crore and happened while Lakhma was a minister. His lawyer confirmed he’s in ED custody for six days.

The investigation is looking at possible corruption and money problems related to how liquor was sold in the state. They think a lot of money was taken improperly while Lakhma was in office. This could have hurt the state’s finances. The first case about the scam came up in 2022 but Lakhma is just being questioned now his lawyer says.

Lakhma’s lawyer has shared some worries about how the ED is doing this investigation. He thinks the timing of the arrest and some of their methods are questionable. It seems he’s suggesting maybe there are other reasons for this arrest given the original case was filed earlier.
