Congress Joins Supreme Court Battle Over Religious

The Indian National Congress party has asked the Supreme Court to let them join a case about the Places of Worship Act of 1991. This law basically says you can’t sue to change a religious place back to what it was before August 15, 1947. Lots of people are already challenging this law in court.

The Congress party says the Places of Worship Act is really important and represents what the Indian people wanted. They said they even mentioned it in their election plans before 1991. They believe this law is key to keeping India secular and peaceful by preventing religious conflict.

Now the Supreme Court will look at the Congress party’s request along with the other cases. The main question is whether the 1991 law is valid and what it means for religious places and India’s secular nature. The court will keep discussing this case.
