Authorities in Gujarat India carried out a big demolition over three days in Bet Dwarka and Okha. They said it was to take back government land that was being used illegally. Officials said they got back about 36400 square meters of land worth more than ₹15 crore. They used bulldozers to tear down buildings that were considered illegal especially on land belonging to the Gujarat Maritime Board.
One of the places they targeted was the Hazrat Panj Pir Dargah in Okha saying it was built on GMB land. They also took down other buildings they said were illegal. The government said this was part of a bigger plan to remove all illegal building on government property.
But local people are saying that the demolitions seemed to be focused on Islamic buildings and homes of Muslim families. They think this might mean there was bias or discrimination during the demolition. Even though the government says they were just removing illegal structures these people feel like their places of worship and homes were being targeted.
