The Indian government asked officials from a bunch of countries to come celebrate 150 years of the India Meteorological Department or IMD. They want people from places that used to be part of India when the IMD started. This includes countries like Pakistan Afghanistan Myanmar Bangladesh Bhutan Maldives Sri Lanka and Nepal.
This meeting is about celebrating the IMD’s long history and how all these places share a background in weather science. It’s not just countries from the Indian subcontinent either. They also invited folks from the Middle East and Southwest Asia because they have a connection to the IMD’s early days.
Basically India wants to get government officials together to talk and remember old ties. It’s a way to celebrate their shared scientific history and the IMD’s work across the region. They specifically wanted countries that were linked to undivided India back when the IMD was founded to be part of the celebration.
