The Indian Army recently changed a well known photo in the Army Chief’s office. The photo showed Pakistan surrendering to India in the 1971 war, but now there is a painting called “Karam Kshetra” instead. This change has made a lot of army veterans and other people upset. They feel the photo was an important part of history and shouldn’t have been taken down.
General Dwivedi, who is the Army Chief, said the army has changed and the new painting is more in line with what India wants to be now like protecting dharma which means right action. He explained that “Karam Kshetra” shows the army’s role in guarding the nation’s values and becoming more modern with technology. But many people still think that changing the photo was wrong and that the photo was important to keep.
This situation has caused debate because some people feel it’s important to remember history using photos and others feel it’s also important to connect with India’s culture using art. While the army says they wanted to show a new image, replacing the photo has made many people unhappy and it’s a big topic of discussion now.
