NIXI which is the National Internet Exchange of India started a new program. It’s called the Internet Governance Internship and Capacity Building Scheme. This program is from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology or MeitY for short. Basically it’s trying to teach people in India about how the internet is run and make them good at it. They want to create future leaders in this area. If you get in you will get 20000 rupees a month as a stipend.
Interns in the program will need to do some outreach work which is part of the training. S. Krishnan who is the Secretary of MeitY and also Chairman of NIXI said that we need more people who really know about internet governance. They need to help grow the internet. This program is meant to help with that. It will give people real experience and tools so they can help make decisions about the internet.
The program is set up to give people the knowledge they need to understand how internet governance works. With money through stipends and experience through outreach NIXI hopes to have a lot of people that understand the internet and want to be part of how it is managed. This is a big plan to make sure the internet in India is strong and well run.
