India’s space agency ISRO just pulled off a successful space docking of two satellites. This makes India only the fourth country in the world to have this tech after the US Russia and China. The docking involved two small spacecraft called SDX01 the “chaser” and SDX02 the “target”. They were launched into orbit back in December and were about 20 kilometers apart.
To make the docking happen ISRO carefully brought the two satellites closer and closer. It was a planned approach that slowly reduced the distance between them until they finally connected. This whole operation really shows how much more skilled ISRO is getting with space technology. This also all happened in a low Earth orbit after the initial launch last year.
ISRO announced the successful docking on X. This is a big deal for India’s space program showing the country’s ability to do some pretty complicated things in space. This docking is also a key step towards being able to do stuff like fixing satellites refueling them and even building things in space in the future.
