Kerala’s Ruling Party Accused of Alienating Muslims to Secure Hindu Votes

Kerala’s political scene is heating up ahead of the 2026 elections with the CPI(M) and Pinarayi Vijayan under fire from Muslim groups like Jamaat-e-Islami. This is a big deal because it might shake up who works with who in the state. CPI(M) bigwigs are saying IUML is cozying up to “communal forces” like Jamaat and SDPI.

Vijayan and his folks are claiming IUML is listening to Jamaat and SDPI which most Muslims don’t even like and that these groups were on the UDF side in the last Lok Sabha elections. On the other hand Jamaat-e-Islami is saying that the CPI(M) is playing dirty by trying to grab Hindu and Christian votes and is even using the same old tricks as the Sangh Parivar especially since they lost some Muslim support.

Muslims in Kerala usually back the Congress led UDF through IUML but that changed a bit after the Babri Masjid thing in 92 when some started supporting the Left Front. Now with the 2026 elections coming up these shifting alliances and how the voters feel will make a big difference and the recent back and forth has put Jamaat-e-Islami more in the spotlight too.
