Three people, identified as Rohingya Muslims, were arrested in Kolkata on Saturday morning for attempting to travel to Kashmir without the correct paperwork. The group included a 31-year-old man and two young girls. This situation began Friday night when a ticket examiner at Sealdah railway station noticed the group behaving strangely across different platforms. Since they could not show valid train tickets, the railway staff took them into custody and handed them over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
Following their detention, the individuals were moved to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further questioning. During the interrogation, the man, named Abdul Rahman, admitted that they had entered India illegally. Moreover, authorities determined that the group planned to travel to Kashmir, though the reason for this journey is still being investigated. The lack of proper travel documents and their unusual actions led to their initial detention by the railway staff. “They could not produce any valid tickets,” said an RPF officer, explaining why they were first stopped.
This arrest highlights the continuing problems with border security and the movement of people who do not have the necessary legal documents. It also brings to light the difficult circumstances faced by Rohingya refugees, who often use irregular methods to find safety or better lives. Consequently, this event emphasizes the importance of being alert and having strong security measures in place at important travel hubs like railway stations.
