Tampakmayum Akhtar an 18 year old chef from Manipur got attacked at his job after talking with his boss’s younger brother. It started with a joke but things quickly got bad at the cafe where he worked. This place was his usual safe space for work. The owner’s brother got really angry over a comment and started hitting him.
After the first fight the owner’s brother called some other people who also beat up Akhtar really badly. The attack happened right there at the cafe. He ended up with serious injuries and had to go to the hospital. A simple joke turned into a very violent situation very fast.
This whole event shows how easily things can become unsafe especially for younger workers. Akhtar’s case shows a big issue where a small disagreement can turn into violence causing him pain and hurt. It points to a need for workplaces to be safe so things like this don’t happen.
