Manipur Crisis: MP Slams Government Silence in Parliament

Manipur Crisis MP Slams Government Silence in Parl

An Inner Manipur Member of Parliament (MP) recently voiced strong concerns about the government’s handling of the Manipur conflict. Speaking in Lok Sabha on Monday, Bimol Akoijam criticized the Union government for its silence on the issue. He suggested this silence is similar to instances of “humiliation” from the past.

Akoijam, a Congress MP, used his time during the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address to draw attention to the crisis. He noted the absence of any mention of Manipur in the President’s Address, expressing his disappointment. He felt the government should have acknowledged the conflict and addressed it directly.

The MP argued that the government’s silence on the Manipur crisis speaks volumes. By not mentioning it, he believes the government is attempting to minimize the seriousness of the situation. This approach, according to Akoijam, is not acceptable given the gravity of the ongoing conflict.

Akoijam’s remarks highlight the political tensions surrounding the Manipur situation. Consequently, there is growing pressure on the Union government to take more meaningful action. The omission of Manipur from the President’s Address has fueled dissatisfaction and increased demands for transparency and accountability.
