Tampakmayum Akhtar an 18 year old chef in Manipur got hurt pretty bad after just talking at his job. He worked at Kafyah Cafe and was just making a joke with the owners younger brother. Things got bad fast after that.
The owner’s brother and some other guys took Akhtar away from the cafe after work. They beat him up shaved his head burned his hair and then made him say he said bad things about a community. It was a really bad attack not just a fight and it all came from a simple joke.
Akhtar and his family are scared and upset by what happened to him. It seems like the guys who attacked him took his joke way too seriously and did terrible things to him. This shows how a normal workplace can be used to really hurt someone and how a conversation can turn into something awful.
