Meta Apologizes to India Over Zuckerberg’s Election Remarks

Meta said sorry to the Indian government on Wednesday. This was because their CEO Mark Zuckerberg made some comments about the 2024 elections there that were called “incorrect” and “irresponsible” and they were accused of spreading misinformation. It seems that this caused a bit of a problem and the Indian government wanted to talk to them about it. Meta said that the comments were just a mistake.

The apology was posted on X and they also said that India is important to Meta. They didn’t explain what the specific comments were or how they spread misinformation just that it was a mistake and that they value their relationship with India. It looks like Meta is trying to make things right after the controversy.

This whole thing happened because of something that Zuckerberg said about the Indian elections that wasn’t correct and it seems to have spread. Because of this Meta was called to speak with a parliamentary panel in India. The quick apology and show of commitment to India shows how careful social media companies need to be when talking about political stuff especially in big countries like India and that they might face problems when they get involved with politics in another country.
