Security forces have killed twelve Maoist rebels, including a key leader named Chalapati, in a fierce gun battle along the border of Odisha and Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. This clash occurred just a day after another encounter, where two female rebels were killed on Monday. This brings the total number of Maoists killed in the recent security operations to fourteen. Joint teams of the Odisha and Chhattisgarh police, along with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), are participating in these actions.
The intense fight happened in a remote area known for harboring left-wing extremists. Law enforcement officials explained that they were acting on specific information about a large gathering of Maoists in the area. This operation is part of a larger strategy to reduce Maoist activity in the region, which has experienced various acts of violence. Authorities are still working to identify each of the rebels killed in the past few days.
“During the continuing operation, we have killed 12 more Maoists today, and the combing operation is still going on,” a senior officer stated. Currently, the area has a heavy security presence, and authorities are carrying out detailed searches. This recent operation highlights the ongoing conflict between security forces and Maoist groups in this unstable region. The high number of casualties signifies a major setback for Maoist presence and operations in the area. However, it is still unclear what the long-term effects of these events will be.
