A heart attack claimed the life of a 65-year-old Punjabi farmer who had participated in the “Dilli Chalo” protest early on Friday morning. At Shambhu, the boundary separating Punjab and Haryana, Gyan Singh, a resident of Chacheki village in the Gurdaspur district, passed away in his trolley.

Gyan Singh belonged to the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC), a unit of Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM). Following calls for a “Dilli Chalo” march from farmers’ organizations like KMSC and the non-political Samyukta Kisan Morcha, the farmers have been protesting.

The cause of the death is heart attack but some users on X claims that the reason of Giyan Singh’s death are the atrocities of government. Tear gas shells used on the protestors with reports of expired tear gas shells being used which resulted into the death of elderly person.

He was taken to a government hospital in Ambala Cantt, where he eventually died. He was stationed almost 700 meters away from the protesting farmers, but there’s no sign that the teargas shells made him sicker.
