Delhi High Court hearing saw police argue against Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, and others’ bail pleas. They say these guys’ speeches stirred up fear which led to the 2020 Delhi violence. Cops pointed out how their talks often mentioned CAA-NRC, Babri mosque, triple talaq, Kashmir stuff, like that created a tense environment. Umar Khalid they said gave a bad speech in Amravati that spread around and his not being in Delhi when the violence happened showed he was trying to dodge responsibility.

They are charged under UAPA and IPC for the violence. Police showed proof of planned actions like meetings, bringing women for stone throwing, and managing protest spots, like it was all a setup. They even said some were involved in trouble before February 2020, like back in December 2019.

The cops said don’t compare these cases to others where people got bail in 2021 because the Supreme Court said those earlier rulings ain’t precedents. The court wants a detailed explanation of the conspiracy from the prosecution and all. Next hearing is on January 21st these bail pleas been hanging around since 2022.
