On Friday morning, a section of the new terminal building under construction at Rajahmundry Airport in the East Godavari district collapsed. The incident, which happened around 11 am, involved a 600 square foot area of the steel structure that was being put into place. Two people sustained minor injuries when the steel framework bent and fell to the side.
According to Rajahmundry Airport Director, S. Gnaneswara Rao, the cause of the collapse is currently unknown. He stated that they believe it stemmed from technical reasons. This incident has sparked concerns about safety practices at the airport construction site and the overall building process.
The steel structure was intended to be part of the new terminal. Its failure raises concerns about the potential dangers involved in large construction projects. Furthermore, the collapse has prompted a thorough investigation into what went wrong. Officials are now assessing the damage and working to understand how this might delay the completion of the airport’s expansion.
Airport director S. Gnaneswara Rao explained that during the construction, a part of the steel structure suddenly bent and toppled over. This incident underscores the need for strict safety procedures and careful quality control during building projects. In addition, this collapse could delay the opening of the new terminal and potentially disrupt air travel in the area, raising questions about the oversight of the project.
