Yoga guru Swami Ramdev made some comments about the temple mosque stuff in India especially about Mathura. He said that the mosque in Mathura that’s like where Krishna was born shouldn’t be there. He thinks big Hindu places that were messed with in the past should get their sites back cause all the fighting is not good for the country. He mentioned Mathura and Kashi Vishwanath as places that are very important for Hindus and should be seen as Hindu places.
So in Mathura and Varanasi Hindu groups are saying that mosques were built on top of their sacred places. In Varanasi there is the Gyanvapi Mosque they’ve been fighting about since 1991 and recently they’ve had more trouble people want to worship idols inside the mosque. This made the court say that worship is allowed starting February 2024. In Mathura the Shahi Idgah Mosque people are saying was made on Krishna’s birth spot. People have been asking since 2020 for it to be taken down.
All this legal stuff is complicated the Allahabad High Court said that these petitions don’t go against the 1991 law. But a court survey for the Mathura mosque got stopped by the Supreme Court in January 2024. So the Supreme Court is still looking into this and it’s a mix of religious and legal issues.
