Religious leader Ramgiri Maharaj sparked debate by saying “Vande Mataram” should replace “Jana Gana Mana” as India’s national anthem. He said this in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city Maharashtra claiming the current anthem was first performed before a British king back in 1911 so its no good for the country. Ramgiri Maharaj thinks a fight is needed to make “Vande Mataram” the national anthem cause it’s the “truth” not disrespect he says.

“Jana Gana Mana” was written in Bengali by Rabindranath Tagore but the Hindi version got picked as the anthem on January 24 1950. Ramgiri Maharaj is going against this saying that because Tagore sang it to a British king it’s not good for independent India. He also mentioned that his fight for “Vande Mataram” is not to be disrespectful but to show what he believes is the real history.

These comments were made at the trailer launch of the movie ‘Mission Ayodhya’ which could make his message louder. Ramgiri Maharaj has stirred things up before, he even had a case against him for comments about Prophet Mohammad and Islam. His new views on the anthem is just another thing that people will be talking about and maybe arguing about.
