During the five years, Sunny Deol, member of parliament from Gurdaspur for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), did not spoke on any issues in Lok Sabha whereas he submitted some written documents while being in Lok Sabha. Shatrughan Sinha, also a member of Lok Sabha belonging to Trinamool Congress (TMC) did not, however, provide any written or spoken contributions.

June 17, 2019, was the first day of the 17th Lok Sabha’s session, which followed the May general election. Just nine of the 543 MPs abstained from all discussions or debates in the Lok Sabha during the course of the five years. Six members of the ruling BJP, two members of the TMC, and one member of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) are on the list as per the reports by The Wire

Speaker Om Birla endeavoured to stimulate involvement from inexperienced Members of Parliament, such as Sunny Deol, who was summoned to speak twice. Nevertheless, the mum members did not respond to these attempts.

Poor Attendance record

A number of Members of Parliament did not bother to attend the Parliament’s proceedings, according to their attendance records. Stats show attendance record as low as 1%. Does this justify the fact that people who represent a constituency should be given such easiness when it comes to conducting business in the parliament.

  • Sunny Deol – 17%
  • Dibyendu Adhikari – 24%
  • B.N. Bache Gowda – 39%
  • V. Srinivas Prasad – 32%
