A farmer named Jadav Deva Rao sadly died by suicide on Saturday January 18. He was 48 years old and from a village called Saidapur in Telangana. He went inside a bank in Adilabad and drank pesticide from a container he had with him. The bank’s security camera recorded this happening.
Local police found out that Mr. Rao owed about 3.5 lakh rupees to the ICICI bank. It seems he took his own life because he couldn’t pay back the money he borrowed. We don’t know what kind of pesticide he used but this shows how tough it can be for farmers who have a lot of debt.
This incident is really sad and shows how financial struggles can lead people to feel hopeless. There’s an investigation happening to figure out all the details. It also makes it clear that we need better ways to help farmers who are dealing with debt so something like this doesn’t happen again.
