The Indian government started the National Turmeric Board in Nizamabad, Telangana on Tuesday January 14th. This happened just before the Sankranthi festival and it’s meant to help turmeric farmers in the Nizamabad area. The launch event was set for 10 am at a hotel in Nizamabad town.
Palle Ganga Reddy was chosen to lead the new board as chairman by the government. He’ll be chairman for three years. Before this he was a BJP state secretary and Nizamabad district president. The board was made after promises from Nizamabad BJP MP D. Arvind to help turmeric farmers.
Setting up this board shows the government is trying to help turmeric farmers in the area. They chose Nizamabad because it’s a big place for growing turmeric. Starting the board right before a big local festival shows it’s important to the community.
