A bus carrying about 50 pilgrims from Telangana caught fire in Mathura while on their way to the Maha Kumbh Mela. They had stopped at the Vrindavan Tourist Center and some pilgrims got off to visit temples. Others stayed on the bus and were preparing food when the fire started. Locals saw the flames and called for help.
Police and fire crews came quickly and put out the fire. Sadly one elderly pilgrim who was still on the bus when it caught fire passed away. Officials are still looking into what caused the fire but they know it started while the pilgrims were cooking on the bus.
The police in Uttar Pradesh are investigating the incident. They want to figure out exactly how the fire started and if safety rules were followed. The pilgrims were traveling from Telangana to Prayagraj and had stopped in Mathura for a short rest.
