Uttar Pradesh Coal Workers Battle Cold and Soot in

The coal market near Varanasi called Chandasi Coal Mandi is really cold right now it’s been that way since December 31st. It’s around 10 degrees there with a lot of gray skies and coal dust everywhere. Workers there are unloading coal and you see them taking breaks at the hand pumps to clean up all the black soot they get on them. You can hear the sounds of hammers and people working hard even in this weather.

These workers have a tough job they are doing heavy work moving coal then they have to go wash up at the hand pumps to get the coal dust off. It’s not easy being there because it’s so cold and the air is full of dust. It’s a busy place and this market is important for getting coal around this area and it’s close to the Ganga River.

Even though it’s freezing and the air isn’t good the market is still going. People are still working hard and it shows that they’re a big part of the coal industry. They are at work despite how uncomfortable and maybe unhealthy it is being around all that coal dust and the cold.
