On October 23rd the Palestinian Ministry of Health said many Palestinians were killed and hurt when Israeli forces went into the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank. This happened early in the morning. Israeli military vehicles and soldiers entered the camp and there were fights with armed Palestinians and other people there. The ministry said people were hurt and killed but the exact numbers aren’t known and could change. The Israeli forces haven’t said exactly why they did this but they often do raids in the West Bank to catch people they say are involved in terrorism.
During the raid Israeli soldiers used live bullets and tear gas. Palestinians shot back and resisted in other ways. Local hospitals tried to treat the injured. Palestinian leaders said the raid was an attack and that Israel used too much force on civilians. They want other countries to help protect Palestinians in the West Bank. The situation is still tense in Jenin with people being scared and worried.
This violence makes the conflict in the area worse and will likely make things more difficult between Palestinians and the Israeli government. We don’t know the exact number of people hurt or killed yet but this is another deadly event in the West Bank. It makes people worry about the safety of Palestinians and shows that there needs to be less violence and that everyone needs to be responsible.
