Assam: 193 Declared Foreigners Sent to Bangladesh in Two Years
The Assam government reported that 193 individuals, including an infant, declared foreigners by tribunals were sent to Bangladesh in two years (2024-2026). Most were expelled or sent back; 67 were expelled under a 1950 act. Repatriation stops if appeals are pending in higher courts. The Supreme Court recently set aside high court orders upholding tribunal decisions, remanding cases for fresh adjudication. There are currently 91,385 'D-Voters' (Doubtful Voters) in Assam's electoral rolls.
