Calcutta HC Seeks Response on PIL Alleging Denial of Welfare Benefits to Persons Removed from Voter List

The Calcutta High Court has directed the West Bengal government to respond by July 21 to a PIL alleging denial of welfare benefits, including ration and Annapurna Yojana, to individuals excluded from the electoral roll during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. The PIL, filed by the West Bengal Khet Majdur Samiti, contends that linking food security entitlements to electoral roll revision may deprive marginalised citizens of essential benefits, violating the National Food Security Act, 2013, and constitutional rights.
