Government School Enrolment Declines by 86 Lakh, Private Schools Gain Over 88 Lakh Students in 2023-2025

The UDISE+ 2025–26 report shows a decline in government school enrolment by nearly 86 lakh students, while private schools gained over 88 lakh students. Government schools fell from 48,844 to 48,527, and private unaided schools increased to 19,351. The report attributes this to demographic factors and a shift towards private schooling.
