India's Healthcare Crisis: A Political Economy Perspective

India's healthcare system, despite advancements, struggles with affordability and access, leading to widespread medical poverty. Government policies have been ineffective, and private hospitals exploit the system. Rural healthcare facilities are understaffed and lack resources, pushing patients to expensive private care. Public expenditure on healthcare is low, and policies often fail to address these issues. The crisis disproportionately affects marginalized communities due to low literacy and economic insecurity. To restore the system, India needs to strengthen primary healthcare, enforce treatment guarantees, regulate private pricing, and move towards universal health coverage.
