Jamshedpur's Suicide Crisis: Three Lives Lost in a Day, Including Two Teenagers
Jamshedpur is facing a severe and ongoing crisis of suicides, with the trend showing no signs of stopping. In just one week, there has been at least one suicide every day, including cases involving very young children. On Monday alone, three people, including two teenagers, took their own lives by hanging.
The first incident occurred in the Manigam police station area, where 52-year-old Rita Singh hanged herself using a dupatta. Her husband stated that after lunch, everyone went to their rooms. Rita then tied the dupatta to a fan and ended her life. She was taken to TMH Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. It was noted that her daughter had recently married in January, and her son was struggling with drug addiction, which reportedly caused her severe depression.
The second case took place in the Govindpur police station area, where 17-year-old Chaitanya Singh, a ninth-grade student, hanged himself inside his room. His family was away at a party, leaving him alone. Police have taken the body for a post-mortem, and an investigation is underway to determine the reason behind his suicide.
The third incident was reported in the Bodam police station area, involving 16-year-old Vaibhav Besera from Paharpur village. His body was found hanging from a tree in a forest about 500 meters from his home. His father mentioned that Vaibhav had left home on May 10, saying he was going to a fair. The exact reasons for his suicide remain unknown, and authorities are continuing their investigations into all three tragic cases.
