Chennai: DMK leader and Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin stated on Thursday that his party does not support a temple that was built after a mosque was demolished in reference to Ayodhya’s Ram Temple.
Udhayanidhi Stalin, the son of Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin, told reporters in Chennai that his grandpa, renowned politician MK Karunanidhi, had stated that the DMK was not opposed to any specific religion or faith.
“The construction of a temple there is not problematic for us. The head of the DMK Youth Wing stated, “We are not in agreement with the construction of a temple after demolishing a mosque,” alluding to the 1992 destruction of the Babri Masjid, according to PTI.
The leader, whose comments about Sanatan Dharma caused a major controversy last time, stated that politics and religion shouldn’t be combined.
“Our Treasurer (T R Baalu) has already stated that spiritualism and politics should not be mixed,” Udhayanidhi continued.
On January 22, Ayodhya will host the Ram Temple’s consecration ceremony. Hundreds of celebrities, including actors, politicians, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have been invited to the event.
The invitation to the event was declined by the Congress and numerous other opposition parties, such as the TMC and CPI(M), who claimed that the BJP was attempting to gain political advantage from the religious occasion.
The Supreme Court mandated in 2019 that the temple be built on the disputed location, over thirty years after the Babri destruction. It also requested that a large mosque be built on a separate plot of land from the government.
Udhayanidhi Stalin stirred some controversy in September of last year when he said that Sanatana dharma should be eliminated since it was opposed to the concept of social justice.
“There are some things that should only be abolished; they cannot be opposed. We are powerless against malaria, dengue, mosquitoes, or corona. Udhayanidhi had declared, “We have to eradicate this, just as we have to eradicate Sanatana.”
