Assam Introduces UCC Bill; Muslim Groups Seek Consultations

Muslim groups in Assam urged the BJP-led government to consult minority stakeholders before introducing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, which was tabled in the Assembly on Monday. The Bill, scheduled for discussion on May 27, seeks common personal laws for marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption. Leaders from ten organizations met in Guwahati, demanding wider consultations. The BJP had promised UCC implementation, with exemptions for tribal communities.
