Amit Shah Promises UCC Implementation in Uttar Pradesh If BJP Returns
Union Home Minister Amit Shah promised to implement the Uniform Civil Code in Uttar Pradesh if the BJP returns to power. He also predicted the Samajwadi Party would not form the government in the state for the next 30 years. Shah made these remarks at the BJP's State Working Committee meeting, targeting SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. The UCC refers to a common framework of civil laws governing marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption, replacing community-specific personal laws. Uttarakhand has implemented a UCC, and BJP-led governments are moving towards similar legislation. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently advocated for nationwide implementation. Former Supreme Court judge Justice Sanjay Karol supported the UCC, calling it the need of the hour.
