Sohrabuddin Shaikh Extrajudicial Killing: Brother Challenges SC Acquittal of 22 Accused

Nayabuddin Shaikh, brother of Sohrabuddin Shaikh, has approached the Supreme Court challenging the Bombay High Court's decision upholding the acquittal of 22 accused in the 2005 staged encounter case. The accused include 21 policemen from Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Andhra Pradesh. The case involves the alleged abduction and killing of Sohrabuddin Shaikh, his wife Kausar Bi, and associate Tulsiram Prajapati by a joint police team. The CBI investigation suggested a larger conspiracy, naming former Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was later discharged in 2014 due to insufficient evidence. The Bombay High Court acquitted all accused in December 2018, citing lack of concrete evidence and broken links in the prosecution's circumstantial case. The court noted no proof of abduction, motive, or a politician-police nexus.
